Belgian/Appaloosa mare Freyja, who was bred to a Thoroughbred stallion, gave birth April 24th to baby boy Declan (shown at two days old). Human mom Dr. Kyla got to spend a few days with them before going to Ottawa to write her final physician's exams.

One of our signature elms died this past year and branches began to fall, posing a danger to riders on the south side of the farm. The tree was taken down one snowy day. The base of the main tree was 4 ' in diameter. The tree had two smaller offshoots, but the remaining stump was approximately 6 ' across (see Diva sitting pretty).

December 31, 2008

We sadly inform you of the death of our faithful companion of 14+ years. Sherlock, you are already missed. He arrived after hunting season and appeared to be an older dog then, so we really don't have any idea of his age, except that he was certainly over 16. Hundreds of visitors, riders and campers will remember him for his quiet greeting and a lick when they arrived at the farm. He knew where to sit to get the most pats from parents during their children's lessons, and where to lie during summer camp lunches in the shade to get the little ones to sit around him and stroke him while he slept. As a younger dog, he was the fearsome chaser of coyotes, and seemed not content until he had given them 10,000 or so "WOOFs" every night from the top of the ridge.

December 29, 2008

After two days of rain and wind, most of the snow is gone and we had a beautiful hack.

Morgan is on Torrent, Meredith is on Onyx, Kaylyn is on Nikki, Cassandra is on Gandalf, Emily is on Abby, and Liam is on Zeus.

December 4-2008 - We have three new horses this winter:

Jazzmine- Registered name "Thiswinsforwiz" 18 year old Thoroughbred schoolmaster mare. Has done xc and jumped to 4', 3 1/2 feet in competition. Quiet but forward. Black, 16.1 hands Bred to Watch Me, registered Oldenburg Grand Prix dressage stallion.

Freyja- 16.2 hands Belgian/Appaloosa. Chestnut, 6 years old. Quiet but green. Freyja has now been sold to Kyla, who fell in love with her immediately and insisted on buying her!

Coco- Two-year old Thoroughbred filly. 15.2 hands and growing. Very, very elegant dark bay . Raced three times at Woodbine, but apparently not fed well. Quiet and going well under saddle, but needs very light exercise only this winter so that she can grow and gain weight. She is very thin, and looks more like a yearling, but has already started to gain weight, even in the first week.

Summer 2008

One of our newest jumps for 2008 is the lovely approachable Canoe Jump, which combines natural elements of small white cedars, red cedar wings and limestone, with the whimsical canoe. We are also pleased to announce that we are adding a 60' x 120' indoor riding arena and 10 14 x 10' box stalls to our facility. (see photos below and above) We also have added new jumps to our cross-country course and are in the process of giving it a complete makeover. We have a complete entry level course and pre-training course and have two training level jumps with more, including improvements to our Irish bank and water obstacles in the works May and June 2008. (see photos below)

Below is a recent schooling session over our cross-country course by six young riders. Two of the horses and two riders had never jumper cross-country before and all did a fantastic job! (see photos below)
